How to Blend Hair Extensions With Short Hair

Hair extensions are amazing if you want a quick transformation for a special occasion or when you just want to switch up your look overnight. What they’re also great for is helping you go from short hair to long tresses, while you’re growing out your hair. Now, if you have a short haircut, you might find it a little challenging to go from short hair to extensions, and blending your human hair extensions seamlessly with your natural hair can seem tough.

In this blog article, we are bringing you FIVE tips and tricks on how to blend hair extensions with short hair and make it look natural.

1. USE THICK BUNDLES

Regardless, if you are using a one bundle, always opt for at least two since you will require more hair to transition from the shorter pieces to longer pieces seamlessly. Even if your natural hair isn’t very thick, the real human hair extensions you buy has to be at least a bit heavier then your own hair. Getting the thickest extensions will help mask your blunt ends and make the transition from your short hair to the longer pieces of the extensions as smooth as possible, virtually unnoticeable.

Make sure to brush your hair out using a Hair Extension Brush before clipping in your extensions.

2. PIN THE BOTTOM SECTION OF YOUR HAIR AWAY

Before you clip in extensions in short hair, we recommend you first pin the hair away from the nape of your neck. This is a really great hack for hiding those pesky shorter pieces that always seem to pick through if they remain loose. To do this, section off the lower part of your hair and braid it, then pin it up with Bobby pins. This is where you’ll be clipping in your first weft of extensions.

3. GO HIGHER THAN USUAL

Keep in mind, when you are clipping in your air extensions for short hair, your goal is to cover as much of your natural short hair as possible. This means that you will find that your extensions will sit a lot higher on your head, which is totally fine. Continue clipping in the rest of your hair extensions until you’ve reached the top of your head.

4. FIGURE OUT PLACEMENT

Use the smaller hair extensions wefts to add volume to the sides. The key to blending clip in extensions in short hair is to strategically place the wefts so that they look natural and cover as much of your natural short hair as possible with the extensions. This means that the hair extensions for short hair will be placed a bit higher on your head than usual but that is totally fine. As long as you leave enough of your own hair on top to cover the wefts you should be fine. You also need to style all the hair together, so that the blunt ends mix nicely with the longer strands of hair.

5. MIX AND MATCH COLORS FOR ADDED DIMENSION

Using two different colors tricks the eye by adding dimension and depth to the hair. So if using two colors, simply alternate the two colors when clipping the extensions in to achieve a seamless blend. A bonus? This creates natural looking sun-kissed highlights.

Also, when you’re looking for the best set of bundles, make sure to pick the right color, as this is an important step in getting perfect blending. If you can’t find the exact shade as your own hair, buy a lighter one and then dye it to match your hair color.
